Great Apostle Carved Wood 17th Century
Large high relief sculpture representing an Apostle. Having lost his attributes, could be considered a philosopher with his large cape worn as a sash on his left arm. In linden, and large in size, it was carved in several pieces of wood. A lot of strength emanates from his face, aquiline nose, prominent cheeks and piercing gaze. Very classical in style. 17th century period. Origin: Italy or southern Germany.
