"Gold And Rose-cut Diamond Ring, French Work Circa 1760–1780 "
Gold and rose-cut diamond ring, French work circa 1760–1780 Charming Louis XV – early Louis XVI period ring, typical of French productions from the third quarter of the 18th century. Made of 18-carat yellow gold (an older alloy often slightly superior), it features a head adorned with seven rose-cut diamonds, mounted in a slightly domed bezel setting with finely chiseled scalloped edges. The diamonds, set on paillon and housed in their original bowl, are still well set in the mount. There is slight wear to the edges of the settings, consistent with the age of the jewel. The symmetrical composition highlights a larger central diamond, framed by six secondary stones. The whole has retained beautiful integrity, with the presence of an 18th-century French control mark. An authentic sentiment or parure ring, emblematic of French taste under Louis XV.
