Limoges Enamels, belt buckle 'portrait of a lady's profile' openwork brass & enameled copper, ca 1900.
Very good condition. Original buckle attachment provided.
In Limoges, enamel painted on copper experienced a remarkable boom from the Renaissance onwards. Unlike cloisonné or champlevé enamel, this method offers a unique pictorial freedom: the patterns, applied with a brush using colored vitrifiable powders, are then fired at a very high temperature revealing, under the heat of the oven, deep, luminous and perfectly blended colors.
Often used to adorn objects, miniature portraits or jewelry, this enameling technique perfectly illustrates this know-how. The reflection of exceptional craftsmanship.
