Artist: Alfred Lombard (1884-1973)
Alfred Lombard (1884-1973) Landscape with a bridge, gouache, 31 x 47 cm, artist's stamp lower right.

Born in Marseille, Alfred Lombard took part in the Fauve adventure from 1907 with Girieud, Verdilhan and Camoin. He participated in the artistic Provençal Renaissance with Girieud, organizing the Salon de Mai in 1912 and 1913. In 1914, he exhibited at the Galerie Rosenberg and then at Druet. From 1920 he devoted himself to large-scale decoration with commissions for the ocean liners "Atlantique" and "Normandie" in collaboration with the architect Jean Patout and for the Exposition des Arts Décoratifs of 1925 and the International Exhibition of 1937. Lombard continued his pictorial research throughout his life as a painter, showing little of his work. Today it reveals an extraordinary richness and diversity.
