Actaeon Punished By Diana, 18th Century

Artist: école Française Du 18ème Siècle
Our painting, an 18th century oil on canvas, shows a scene from Greek mythology: On the right, Actaeon, a proud hunter, in the center, Diana with her retinue of nymphs. Actaeon surprised them bathing and delighted in the spectacle. Furious at having been seen naked, she transformed him into a deer. It is at the moment of the transformation that the viewer of this painting witnesses: Horrified, Actaeon realizes that deer antlers have grown on his head. After cleaning and professional restoration, the painting is in very good condition. Its gilded wooden frame is later.
