"Moroccan Nimcha Saber With Spanish Blade - Morocco, 18th Century"
Moroccan Nimcha Saber With Spanish Blade - Morocco, 18th CenturyStraight double-edged blade with a wide central fuller on the first quarter. Inscriptions in the fuller "“SAQUES SIN RASON – EMBAINES SIN HONOR” The blade has been shortened at its base, the entire motto was "“NO ME SAQUES SIN RASON – NO ME EMBAINES SIN HONOR”. The tip of the blade has also been reworked as well as the counter-edge to make the blade slightly curved. This pattern of Spanish blade is regularly found on the Spanish cavalry saber model 1728. The fact that the blade has been reworked at its base and not only at the tip (usually beveled locally on European imported blades) makes me think that it could be a prize blade (perhaps following Barbary battles) rather than a trade blade. Steel guard with three studs and guard branch. Cow horn handle. Wooden scabbard covered with leather and with chiseled brass rivet. Some damage to the leather of the scabbard. Total length 91cm Length without scabbard 88cm Blade length 73.5cm Weight 968gr Weight without scabbard 788gr
