Inscribed marble tablet of Saint Philip, on a base, Northern Italy, 11th century. This magnificent and extremely crude marble tablet depicts Saint Philip holding a book and staff beneath a decorated arch. It was carved from a larger architectural frieze or column. The decoration of the architectural arch, as well as the saint's facial features and robe, are crude and simple. H - 45 cm (on base), 28 cm (tablet) W - 17 cm D - 8 cm
