"Small Circular Box, Farmer With Birds, Tortoiseshell, Pink Gold (?) Late 18th Early 19th"
Small circular tortoiseshell box, both sides domed, the edges in the form of tubular threads alternating between ivory and tortoiseshell, the lid occupied in its center by an 18th century button with octagonal decoration of a young woman feeding birds on a mauve background and festoon of gold pearls, inserted in a pink metal ring (probably pink gold, but not tested), also used for the ornamental frieze inlays of the edges and faces. There is a crack in the back and some minor losses and accidents, which do not compromise the general appearance of the object. The interior houses a very fresh and charming straw marquetry case with flower and fruit motifs, with its small silk pull. The Carnavalet Museum has a similar button (INV. B473). Late 18th-early 19th century. Diam. 6.5cmHeight 3.5 cmA small object of very rare elegance in a very good general condition of conservation.
