Pastel dated 1935, depicting dockworkers on Lake Geneva. Painting signed lower left "JFLecoultre" John-Francis Lecoultre (1905-1990) is a Swiss painter and pastellist from Lausanne. Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Geneva, then in Paris, he developed a marked taste for the representation of landscapes very early on, which he explored with great sensitivity. Back in Switzerland, he settled in the Vaudois Jura, a region that became the heart of his artistic inspiration. There, he painted landscapes imbued with silence and mystery, often in the form of pastels, his preferred technique. Lecoultre sublimates forests, hills, changing skies, and seasonal light in a soft and nuanced palette. He transforms Swiss nature into an almost spiritual vision, halfway between realism and symbolism. Highly respected in Swiss art circles, he exhibits regularly in Lausanne, Geneva, and Neuchâtel. His works are now featured in several Swiss museums and private collections. Good general condition. Montparnasse style frame. Dimensions without frame: 48 / 31 cm
