This dynamic 19th-century bronze sculpture, based on the work of the French sculptor Jacques Auguste Fauginet (1809–1847), depicts a mortal struggle between man and beast. On a naturalistic rock base with plant motifs stands a kneeling warrior in a turban holding a spear. Before him is a roaring tiger, its head raised, jaws open, and ready to attack.
The composition is distinguished by its expressiveness, detailed modeling of the figures and masterful rendering of movement.
