This lively sheet is a fine example of the early 18th-century revival of interest in Dutch Golden Age painting. Executed in the spirit of Adriaen van Ostade, it depicts a bustling tavern interior filled with rustic characters — smokers, drinkers, and children at play.
The work captures the graphic language of Van Ostade while evoking the hand of an artist close to Cornelis Dusart, his direct pupil in Haarlem, known for his colored drawings of peasant life.
A highly decorative piece, full of charm and atmosphere, presented in a superb 18th-century carved frame with elegant mat — ready to hang.
