Iwata Sentarō was born in Kurofune-cho, Asakusa-ku, Tokyo (now Kotobuki, Taito-ku, Tokyo).He started in Kyoto as a disciple of Kikuchi Keigetsu, a Japanese painter.Back in Tokyo in 1919 he became the protégé of Hakubunkan and produced illustrations for its magazine "Kodan Magazine".then for "Bungei Club".At this time, around 1920, he became a disciple of Ito Shinsui.In 1961 he was rewarded for his work and received the medal with purple ribbon
