Object description :

"Gerard Sekoto : "south African Village""
Gérard Sekoto (1913-1993) : "Village in South Africa", oil on canvas 22 x 27 cm, period frame in carved and stripped flocked wood 37 X 43 cm.
The artist, who worked in France and whose "Self-portrait" illustrates the poster for the "Paris Noir" exhibition at the Centre Pompidou, shows us an African woman returning to the village of brightly colored huts with thatched roofs, a jar on her head, passing between grazing cows.
This painting from the artist's most sought-after period comes from a French collection that also included many Fikret Mouallas. See also our painting "Soweto" by Egerton Wood.
