Large mask called "gable" commonly hung above the gable of one of the two entrances or near one of the openings or "windows" of the men's house. These masks have the task of protecting the tribe from diseases, bad luck etc. Symbol of the protective woman, the mother and head of the common house. This mask was collected in the Blackwater area in Papua New Guinea. Woven wicker, wood, sago bark and natural pigments. Presentation base on request only.
