Nicolai Michoutouchkine was born in 1929 in Belfort, of Russian origin. He was co-founder with Aloi Pilioko of the foundation that bears their names and of the Oceanic Art Museum based in Port Vila. An internationally renowned artist, he was also a major collector of Pacific art.
