"Important Mirror By Emile André, Art Nouveau, Miliataria Propaganda World War I, 1916"
Important Mirror by Emile André, "The French Rooster Triumphant over the German Eagle" after JOB, Art Nouveau, 1916Description: This exceptional mantelpiece or trumeau mirror, signed and dated by Emile André, is a work of Art Nouveau made in 1916, in the midst of the First World War. A true symbol of the period, this piece embodies both the art of copperware and a strong patriotic message, which made a strong impression at the time. The frame of the mirror is an elaborate composition of wood covered with copper and brass sheets. The materials are meticulously studded, embossed, and patinated to create a rich and complex texture, typical of the fine craftsmanship of the period. Finely arranged glass beads complete this decoration, adding a touch of refinement and sophistication. The main scene: Located in the upper part of the mirror, this scene is a reinterpretation of the very famous propaganda poster by the illustrator JOB (Jacques Onfroy de Bréville). It depicts the French rooster, emblem of the Republic, triumphing over the imperial German eagle. The eagle's crown, symbol of imperial power, lies on the ground, while a new day of peace (symbolized by the rising dawn) appears on the horizon. This powerful motif conveys the hope of a peaceful future after the end of the conflict. The laurel and oak leaves, which adorn the frame, recall the classic symbols of military victory, emphasizing the message of triumph and renewal. The mirror: The glass is beveled, in good condition. Manufacturing details: The mirror is signed and dated on the back, confirming its authenticity: "Made by E. André in the year 1916 - April 23, André". This inscription reinforces the historical value of the object and testifies to the exceptional know-how of the artist. Condition: This piece is in remarkable condition, well preserved, and testifies to the quality of its craftsmanship. The natural aging of the materials, as well as the slight traces of time, do not affect the beauty of the whole, on the contrary, they accentuate its authentic and heritage character. Dimensions: Height: 152 cm Width: 80 cm Depth: 4 cm This unique work is a rare opportunity to acquire a unique piece of Art Nouveau, directly linked to the history of the First World War and the propaganda of the time, while being a majestic and timeless decorative object.
