Tray, pocket emptier in pine wood carved in the shape of a tanuki, an animal from Japanese folklore. The tanuki is known for being mischievous, transformative, and a bon vivant. It appears in many tales and legends. Here, the eyes are made of sulfide and one tooth is made of bone. A very unique piece and of very good quality. Japan, Meiji era, 34.5 x 27.5 x 4.5 cm.
