Chalice And Its Paten, Silver Gilt, France Favier Frères Circa 1850
Chalice and its paten in gilded silver in the neo-Gothic style. The chalice has a wide, stepped, indented foot, forming an almost flat terrace, finely chiseled with symbols of the instruments of the Passion of Christ. It has a six-lobed shaft, adorned with a collar and a flattened toric knot, decorated with diamond-shaped buttons embellished with quatrefoils and motifs inspired by cut leather. The cup, with a very slightly flared edge, is set halfway up in an openwork saucer with Gothic tracery motifs, decorated with crosspieces and pinnacles. Minerva hallmarks (950/1000) visible on the cup, the saucer and the base terrace. This set was made by the Favier Frères goldsmiths' workshop, around 1850. Chalice: Height: 26 cm Diameter of the base: 16.3 cm Diameter of the cup: 10.3 cm Weight: 572 gr Paten: gilded silver, Minerva hallmark 950/1000, polylobed decoration, matted background representing the Paschal Lamb in the center of a fleur-de-lis cross, inscribed in a circle bearing the words Agnus Dei, Panis vivus. Diameter: 16 cm Weight: 178 g Perfect condition. Condition: set in perfect condition, with minimal signs of use. Original gilding well preserved. Slight signs of use visible inside the cup. Attached: a transport case from the same period / in very good condition /
