"Golden Eagle - Bronze 1920-30 By Yuuma Tsugata (1891 - 1981)"
Bronze with brown patina, signed - slight wear on the head, some small oxidation, dust on the talons. Born in the city of Kanazawa, Ishikawa prefecture. His bad behavior caused him to change schools often. He entered the Ishikawa Technical High School and began to study sculpture. In 1913 he graduated from the Tokyo School of Fine Arts. He then created a wide range of sculptures, animals, historical figures, Buddhist statues, in order to be selected for the Teiten (Salon). Success only came in 1919. Prince Kotohito Kan'in bought a piece from him at the national animal exhibition. In 1920, finally awarded a prize at the salon, he became the student of Fumio Asakura - he then went on to win numerous awards. In 1938, he became head of the ceramics department of Ishikawa Prefecture (and produced many figurines for temples, pilgrims). He erected monuments mostly on his own initiative, finding funding. He retired from sculpting in 1941 to devote himself to spiritual life. In 1950, he was a judge at the Nitten exhibition, in 1951, he participated in the construction of the Giant Buddha temple in the city of Komatsu. He became its high priest. Weight 6.3 kg.
