Almanac Of Honest People - 1793
ALMANAC of Honest People in Paris, 1793. Small duodecimo. Rare FIRST EDITION of this revolutionary almanac by Louis Ventre de La Touloubre (1746-1816), known as Galart de Montjoye (Tourneux), which enjoyed immense success and numerous reprints. The author brings together here a number of anecdotes about the revolutionary days of August and September 1792, "the list of people whose throats were cut in the various prisons," and a fictional dialogue between Mirabeau and La Rochefoucauld. An engraved allegorical frontispiece depicts Justice, Religion, and Truth withdrawing to heaven, while on earth, given over to the horrors of civil war, executioners finish off their victims.
