Louis XV Period Beechwood Lacquered Sofa Stamped by Jean-Baptiste Delaunay, Circa 1770


This elegant sofa, stamped by Jean-Baptiste Delaunay, master in 1764, is crafted from carved and gray-lacquered beechwood. It features a decor of stylized florets and foliage, along with whiplash-curved armrest supports. The sofa stands on six cabriole legs with fluting and front fillets.


A French work from the Louis XV period, circa 1770, this sofa exemplifies Delaunay's craftsmanship, known for its pure and harmonious lines.

In very good condition, the sofa has been recently reupholstered with a beautiful floral fabric in yellow.


Biography:

Jean-Baptiste Delaunay, based on rue Saint-Martin, was renowned for his chairs with pure forms and subtle decoration in the Louis XV and Louis XVI styles. He is considered one of the finest cabinetmakers of his time.
