An important Arab saif saber - Ottoman Syria, 18th centuryArab saif saber most likely from Syria based on the style of the handle. Beautiful Ottoman blade of "kilij" shape, curved with a single edge and a strongly pronounced counter edge (called yelman). The back of the blade is in "T" section. Blade forged from beautiful Damascus steel but whose grain has faded over time. Possibility of revealing the grain again after a good polishing and acid treatment. Silver handle and scabbard with floral decoration and arabesques (many dents in the silver and play in the different elements). An Ottoman sultan's tughra is hallmarked many times on the silver.
