Wrought iron table by Gilbert Poillerat with Grand Antique marble top.
Wrought iron, Grand Antique marble.
France
ca. 1940-1947.
h. 29.5 in. ; L. 55.1 in. ; w. 27.55 in.

This wrought iron table, with four scrolled legs and a stretcher with rope motifs held by a ring, is of a model documented by François Baudot catalogue of Gilbert Poillerat’s works. It is here adorned with a Grand Antique marble top, as a tribute to the scagliola top imitating veined marble that Poillerat had chosen for the model documented above.

This table with a Grand Antique marble top was likely designed between 1940 and 1947, with 1947 being the year Gilbert Poillerat supplied a low table with a similar concept for the Palais de l’Élysée, featuring scrolled legs and a stretcher mimicking ropes held by sturdy rings, though more ornate overall, with the ropes enhanced by strong but delicate wrought iron passementerie motifs. The model with the scagliola top, meanwhile, is dated ca. 1940.
