Rare fruit scraper depicting an anthropomorphic ancestral face that may resemble a stylized bird's beak.
The general shape and type of bone used place this object in the Adzera linguistic group of the Markham Valley in Papua New Guinea.
This bone utensil was used to scrape the skin off vegetable bananas (or plantains) after cooking them over a fire.
It is an ancient everyday object with a beautiful patina of use.
