Watercolor on paper "farmyard, the blacksmith's workshop" signed and dated lower right H. Harpignies 1836. French school. 19.4 X 24.3 cm (at sight) 31.8 X 36.7 cm (overall). Henri Harpignies (1819-1916) was a traveling salesman for a time before devoting himself fully to the art of painting. He debuted at the Salon of 1853 with a view of Capri. Our watercolor is a touching testimony to the young man's desire to become a painter. Modern giltwood baguette frame. Good condition.
