Ghoum rug, magnificent antique Persian, measuring 137 cm wide by 199 cm long.
End of the Kadjar dynasty, Persia, Iran dated in Persian 1341, which corresponds to 1923 in a cartouche.
Piece in a superb state of preservation for its velvet, short fringes, and selvedges in good condition.
The date and a signature as well as a small text are inscribed in Persian in ivory wool, in a cartouche with a red background, at the top of the rug.
Surprisingly, the change of wool and white silk in 3/4 of this piece.
Born like this, this gives it a very special beauty.
The carpet is knotted with beautiful, strong, shiny, and clean materials. The colors, ivory, wine red, many blues, a beautiful almond green... elegantly highlight this floral-decorated carpet.
The beginning of Ghoum carpets was established in this city around 1920/1930. This was thanks to the initiative and perseverance of the knotters and merchants of Kashan.
The shapes and designs of the first Ghoum often echo the Kashan decor.
Our model, a beautiful artifact from this period, does not deviate from the beginnings of Ghoum creations.
The manufacture of these beautiful, very durable carpets is certainly recent, but the skilled and precise knotters as well as the "Ostads" cartoon designers have imposed their know-how thanks to the perfection of their work and the breadth of the range of careful designs and attractive colors.
The second holiest city of Iran, 150 km from Tehran, Ghom is a major theological center.
The knot used is the Persian knot, tied very tightly.
The decorations of plants, flowers, intertwined plants and animals, as well as the use of wool and silk are regular. Our model presents a polylobed medallion, juxtaposed with other medallions, its abundant field is covered with flowers and interlacing, the whole gives us the impression of a garden, flowerbeds and a central fountain.
In fact it symbolizes the sun, divine, the two large pendants, symbolize the moon and the earth. Note the series of three pendants in the length of the medallion, each adopting the form of a halberd. The border decorated with inclined palmettes on a pale blue background is of a rare quality.
The four corners called spandrels, each have within them a large decoration of sharp halberd.
The sight of the change of wool from ivory color to red background (due to lack of wool), certainly brings us to the work of a small family workshop making this carpet a use of wedding gift, or birth, very important event in the life of the family.
This change of wool is not a discoloration, it is its DNA.
The marketing of this type of carpet is done under several names : Qom, Ghom, Gom, Qum, Kum, and Ghoum.
Our model with decoration of interlacing, arabesques, plants is in very good condition, in a magnificent classic spirit and unusual colors including the very present blue as well as the red.
A very beautiful collection carpet of almost 100 years which corresponds to the beginning of the creation of the Ghom carpet. Dimensions: Width: 137 cm (54") x Length: 199 cm (77")
This carpet has been cleaned in a professional and ecological way.
