Indonesia, Bali Island, 19th Century, Important And Ancient Betel Nut Grinder.
Indonesia, Bali island, 19th century, important and very old betel nut grinder, complete with its "scabbard". The handle is nicely decorated with a bone sculpture representing a bird with a man's head, perched on what appears to be foliage. Superb age patina on the sculpture. The base of the handle is bronze, and the blade is iron. The scabbard is wooden. This is a very rare object due to its particularly elaborate handle. Grinder height 23 cm. Scabbard height: 11 cm.
Good condition except for slight normal wear and tear. Provenance: former Dutch collection.
