Norman McLaren, born April 11, 1914 in Stirling, Scotland and died January 26, 1987 in Montreal, Canada, is a Canadian director of British origin. He is considered one of the great masters of world animated cinema. His name is closely associated with the National Film Board of Canada. The importance of Norman McLaren's work in Canadian cultural heritage is immense. A true animation genius, avant-garde creator, pioneer of electronic music and 3D animation, McLaren is the author of more than sixty animated films at the NFB, which have won more than two hundred awards worldwide. His most famous film, Neighbours, for which he received an Oscar® in 1952, has been inscribed on UNESCO's Memory of the World International Register since 2009.
