Devotional plaque, San Telmo or Sanct'Elmo. Bronze. Spanish school, 19th century.
Saint Peter Gonzalez became Bishop of Palencia, and later entered the Order of Preachers. He is known as Saint Telmo and is considered the patron saint of sailors, having been confused with Saint Erasmus of Formia (Sanct'Elmo). In this case, Saint Peter Gonzalez is usually depicted in Dominican habit, while Saint Erasmus is usually depicted in bishop's attire, but with an allusion to his martyrdom on one hand.
