Height of woman to the tip: 27 cm Height of Man » »: 27 cm Raphaël Giarrusso is one of the most famous artists who worked at the Poteries d'Accolay from 1953 and opened his studio ten years later. Born in Montreal, Canada, of Italian origin, to modest parents who were not very interested in art, Raphaël was nevertheless attracted by an artistic career and started, at the age of fifteen, the Ecole des beaux-arts de Montréal. He arrived in Paris in 1948, and took courses at the Beaux-arts, painted a lot. When he arrived in Accolay in 1953, the company was doing well, it was well run by André Boutaud, who was passionate about animals, he drew and sculpted them frequently. His friend Georges Pelletier, who arrived in Accolay in 1956, . He decided, with him, to launch a joint production. This was the Rébeval adventure in 1964, we must think that these two friends had created a real successful mechanism: these animals, characters, and openwork lamps worked very well. Their adventure only lasted a year, they regained their autonomy, wishing to be free to launch their own creations, Raphaël then opened his workshop in Vermenton, not far from Accolay. Raphaël Giarrusso is particularly known for his soldiers, medieval warriors or musketeers, he exploited there a successful vein of characters proudly carrying swords, shields or lances and had fun shaping their faces against the employment of their serious function.
