Who Rubs Against It Gets Pricked, Fine Embroidery
Superb panel embroidered with silk threads, on a brown felted canvas background, embroidery of very good quality in perfectly bright colors depicting the pig and pic with the motto Comique et eminus which could be compared to Qui s'y frotte s'y pique » expression which appeared at the end of the 16th century and wrongly attributed as the motto of the Dukes of Orléans and the King of France Louis XII. If the figure associated with the motto is indeed a porcupine, the original Latin motto which dates from the end of the 14th century was different: "Cominus et eminus" in fact means "from near and far"1.
