Rare circular tabletop in scagliola, decorated with marble inlay and a malachite border framing a refined micromosaic with fine tesserae. The scene depicts a view of the Roman Forum, a quintessential subject of the period and the Grand Tour aesthetic.
The tabletop is supported by a later cast-iron tripod, adorned with gilt bronze animal motifs.
Crafted by the artisans of the Vatican Workshops, renowned for their expertise in this type of work. Rome, mid-19th century.
Very good condition: a few minor chips on the lower edge of the tabletop, visible only when turned over. Professional restoration included in the asking price.
