The scenes of taverns or bambochades are a popular pictorial genre in the 17th century, especially in Dutch and Flemish painting, but also in Italy, particularly in Rome. Scenes of everyday life, often centered on the working classes: peasants drinking, feasting, playing cards, dancing or quarreling in inns or taverns.
