"Modernist Desk By Charles Vandenhove"
Charles Vandenhove (1927-2019), rare desk in solid afzelia, the top covered with black linoleum, equipped with a 2-drawer multiplex box. The desk shelf has many small alterations on its surface, we have chosen not to replace it: Its condition attests to its age. The contrast between these signs of normal wear and the renovated appearance of the woodwork also offers an unmistakable cachet of authenticity. It is nevertheless possible to acquire a desk with a shelf replaced identically and without surface alteration. Although the modernist style was born in the 1930s, it was especially popular in the 1950s and continued until the early 1970s. This desk therefore falls within this period and its lines are sometimes familiar with those found in certain models by Le Corbusier (and Pierre Jeanneret) whom he encountered at the beginning of his career, around 1951, as did Auguste Perret or Gio Ponti.
