"Cashmere Shawl Woven In The Style Of Amédée Couder - Scotland Or France Circa 1840"
Circa 1830-1840 Scotland or France Square shawl for "Romantic" fashion in wool woven with very strong polychromy, in the style of Amédée Couder and dating from the beginning of the Victorian era. Architectural and plant style design in the neo-Gothic taste declined by the famous designer during this period. Cream reserve with central moon and quarter moons in spandrels, framed by a wide border with plant illuminations loaded with medallions with writing imitating Persian (as Amédée Couder often did, notably in the famous Nou Rouz in 1839). Borders with strong polychromy mixing the neo-Gothic architectural style with the "bizarre" taste in 18th century revival. Shawl woven on a draw loom with floating wefts partially cut on the reverse. Borders with woven and harlequin fringes on the four sides. Please note rare, barely visible micro-soiling and four to five tiny moth holes. Stable condition and can be handled without problem. Beautiful condition of conservation and color. Dimensions: 186 cm X 181 cm.
