Signed and dated ’S Greeve fec 10/2 1811’ (pencil, lower right)
Greeve was born in Amersfoort and is thought to have studied in the art academies in Dresden and Berlin, where he participated in an exhibition in 1797. He was drawing master at the Military Academy in The Hague Around 1811 he moved to France, where he became professor in La Flèche.
