Seated bear, sometimes called "begging bear" or "pensive bear", or "bear dreaming of the star", plaster proof of the sculpture made by the artist at the same size in direct carving in granite and marble, and published in bronze and ceramic.
Signed and dedicated to "Laurent" on the terrace.
Provenance: E. Laurent, civil servant of the Fine Arts administration, attached to the special commission of the 1889 Universal Exhibition.
Subject exemplifying the mastery of Gardet, this great animal sculptor, combining realism and romanticism in the treatment of these subjects.

Good condition - accident to the muzzle, small loss at the base of the terrace - see photos.
