Beautiful ROUND DISH in forged pewter with a molded edge.
Hallmark of François MARQUIS received as master before 1599: head of Saint-François / FRANCOIS MARQUI. It is common to note that the choice of the symbol of the hallmark by the master is often related to his name or first name.
Large and beautiful stamped armorial property hallmark on which no attribution research has been undertaken
Diameter: 36.6 cm.
AVIGNON, End of the 16th century or first third of the 17th century

In very good condition, very early in the period and of beautiful quality of material and finish, presenting beautiful hammering facets on the reverse. In addition, of an extremely rare provenance to note.
Let us recall in passing that hammering can be practiced in two cases: Either the plate is entirely forged from a tin wheel that is "hammered", or it is first melted in a mold and then hammered in order to increase its rigidity. The plate presented here was obtained by this second technique. Bibliography: "Pewter potters of the Old Languedoc and Roussillon" by René Richard who reproduces this maker's mark
