Very beautiful complete set of 4 engravings enhanced with watercolor (aquatints) on the theme of hunting with hounds, "The departure, the halali, the hunt and halt on the return from the hunt" drawn by Carl Vernet, in Paris at ABES and F. Dubreuil, Imp edit rue Git-le-coeur, 11. Engraved by Jazet. 19th century Frame size 62*52 cm and on view 58*48 cm (missing glass on halt on the return from the hunt, slight tear) Large engravings, made by Jean Pierre Jazet after two works by Carle Vernet, two illustrious artists, one is a great specialist in representations of horses and the other, a student of Debucourt is one of the greatest engravers of the 19th century. Jean Pierre Jazet 1788-1871 was raised by Debucourt who was his uncle by marriage, the latter taught him his art, he perfectly mastered the different techniques, etching, burin or even aquatint. He exhibited from 1817 and quickly achieved great fame, he engraved the works of many painters, among them were David, Gros, Bellangé or Carle Vernet, he exhibited at the salon until 1865. He produced many aquatints, a process that he brought to a remarkable point of perfection, and was long considered the greatest French engraver. He was awarded a second class medal in 1819 and decorated with the Legion of Honor in 1846. Antoine Charles Horace Vernet known as Carle Vernet 1758-1836 is a painter of genre and horses, student of his father Joseph Vernet and Nicolas Bernard Lépicié. He painted genre and battle scenes, dealt with lighter subjects by making portraits of marvelous and incredible, hunting scenes, but more than anything he devoted himself to the representation of horses that he loved passionately. They are highlighted in a very beautiful frame in beige velvet paper harmonized with the engravings, the modern baguette is like the pitch pine frames used at the time for this kind of aquatints. Although they are hidden behind the mat, the margins are present in full.
