Artist: Victor De Knop (bruxelles 1883 - Anderlecht 1979)
Oil on cardboard, signed lower right. A doctor by training, pianist, scholar and painter, De Knop was very close to the artistic and intellectual milieu of the early 20th century in Belgium. He frequented James Ensor, Constant Permeke (whose doctor he was), Léon Spilliaert, Henri Vandeputte (poet), Jean Teugels. In February 1928, he participated with Félix Labisse, Henri Storck (filmmaker), Firmin Cuypers, Alfred Coumre, Robert Elleboudt, Désiré Steyns, Pierre Vandervoot and Henry Van Vyve, the Ostend Cinema Club.
