Oil on wood panel in a gilded wood frame, signed Gaston Roullet (1847-1925). Appointed official painter to the Colonies and the Navy in 1885, he took part as an illustrator in numerous military campaigns, before becoming a correspondent for Le Monde Illustré. He was named Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur in 1895.
