Music box made in Switzerland by Nicole Frères in 1852. The wooden box is decorated with marquetry of various exotic woods on the lid, a symmetrical cartouche in lemon wood in the center and borders on the sides. Inside the lid is the melody card. The whole is lacquered in red on the inside. The sides, front and back of the case are decorated with a simulation of original wood grain. On the bottom is the serial number (30016). This number is also on the mechanism (top right) and on the melody card. The Key-wind mechanism plays 6 melodies as they appear on the original melody card. The 6 melodies are hymns (of a religious nature) including: Hallelujah.... Boxes from this period are operated by 3 levers located on the left. The mechanism is signed on the base plate (top left), as well as the original comb. The music box plays the melodies as it should, without any hitches. Beautiful music box in very good working condition.
