Charming oil on canvas depicting a character in a nightgown in a bedroom holding a snuffbox in his hand... dated 1832. Edme-Jean Pigal, born in Paris on February 10, 1794 and died in Sens on September 17, 1872, is a French genre painter, draftsman, engraver and lithographer. A student of Antoine-Jean Gros, Pigal appeared at the salons from 1827 to 1870. The varnish needs to be reviewed, which is much too shiny, original frame and never relined.
