Louis Cabié, renowned artist in France and particularly in the Bordeaux region, even during his lifetime, circulated in the great southwest throughout his life. Pupil of Harpignies whose passion for vegetation is found in the style of the Barbizon school, he will transcribe until his death the simplicity of the picturesque French landscapes. Spectacular trees, forest atmospheres, places steeped in history, bewitching valleys, or even a landscape in its simplest form that it will know how to raise with a vital contrast.
Around 1890, Cabié begins to stay in the south-east of France or later he will have a residence in Antibes. The first known works on the shores of the Mediterranean are made in Martigues. In the town-canal, sea side, or Berre pond side. Our panel, produced in 1918, is one of the most luminous works of the painter, which he places near Toulon. The exact location remains unclear.
