Burmese Konbaung Buddha

Burmese representation of the Buddha seated in bhumisparsha mudra, solid wood covered with dry lacquer and gilding, Konbaung period (1782-1885), Shan States. The red base is a characteristic feature of the Konbaung period, it is stepped and symbolizes the different stages leading to Awakening. The facial features as well as the hand touching the ground indicate the Shan style while the treatment of its ushnisha already announces the Mandalay style. (1853-1948). This image is therefore to be dated around 1820/1850. Provenance: Estate of the collector and dealer of Asian art Claude de Marteau. Sold with certificate of provenance. H 51 CM XP 15 CM XL 33 CM.
