Pewter DINNER CARRIER in a truncated cone shape with a quarter-round groove, and its nippled lid with a central grip. Swinging handle with rectangular attachments.
Clear hallmark of Etienne SERGENT received as a master in 1769: SERGENT AVALLON.
Control mark: Crowned C / AVALLON.
Height at the throat: 11 cm.
AVALLON (Burgundy), End of the 18th century

This object was used by shepherds and field workers, day laborers, etc. There were several sizes, the number of which varied depending on the production centres, from 4 to 6. The shapes of these dinner holders varied, they were truncated in Burgundy, pomiform in Ile-de-France, flared in Anjou, etc.; the attachments of the handles, depending on the region, feature cherub heads, rosettes, fleurons, human masks, etc.
