Paul-nicolas d'Argental (1875-1952), Lampe Berger, C. 1920
Paul Nicolas d'Argental (1875-1952), French master glassmaker, joined the Gallé establishment in 1893, Emile Gallé having immediately seen Paul Nicolas d'Argental's drawing skills.
In 1919 he left the Gallé company and created his own business at his home in Nancy.
A recent and beautiful exhibition was dedicated to him, from February 15 to May 21, 2023, at the Charles-de-Bruyères museum in Remiremont Paul Nicolas d'Argental (1875-1952), master glassmaker, presenting around a hundred of his glassworks and numerous graphic works.
This very beautiful pear-shaped berger lamp in multilayer glass with acid-etched decoration on an opalescent background represents a maritime scene with several sailing boats in a setting sun effect produced by the orange color of the glass.
D'Argental most often engraved floral decorations on his creations, here he created an exceptional maritime landscape.
Signed in reserve engraved with ARGENTAL on the bottom in the darkest part of the glass.
