Portrait Of A Man In Armor Circa 1660/70
Large portrait of a man wearing a beautiful lace tie and a thin moustache. He is depicted in armor which means he is a soldier.
Oil on canvas in very good general condition, minor wear.
French School, circa 1666.
The wig is in good condition and very readable (the colors used to paint wigs are generally fragile), the canvas is original as well as the frame.
Period frame in gilded wood.
Louis XIV also wore this thin moustache, the fashion spread quickly to the court when the king adopted it. The gallery sold a portrait of the king at the Château de Versailles a few years ago representing him with this thin moustache, a rare known example of Louis XIV at this age with this type of moustache (see photo).
