Chest Of Drawers. Austrian Biedermeier 1810-1825

The Commode. Austrian Biedermeier 1810-1825. Marquetry.

The Austrian Biedermeier is a style that originated in Austria and spread to Germany, Switzerland and several other European countries in the first half of the 19th century, particularly from 1815 to 1848. This style owes its name to the satirical character Gottlieb Biedermeier, created to represent the tastes and interests of the bourgeoisie. The Biedermeier style reflects the democratic values and the aspiration for simplicity, comfort and practicality, typical of the middle class of this period. Chests of drawers and wardrobes: Rectangular and sober, with a minimum of decorative elements, these pieces of furniture are practical.
