"Louis XVI Period Marquetry Chest Of Drawers"
Superb chest of drawers from the early Louis XVI period, circa 1780 in rosewood veneer in amaranth frames. It opens on the front with 2 drawers in the belt and 2 large drawers with crosspieces below and rests on sheath feet decorated with bronze sabots. Our chest of drawers has on the front as well as on the sides a very rich decoration in marquetry of various wood species. We have not identified a stamp, but the fine execution of the marquetry fillets, the variety of patterns and the subtlety of the fern frieze decoration on the sides are the mark of a great cabinetmaker of the 18th century. It is topped with its period marble which has undergone an old restoration (practically invisible), it has been repolished. Built in softwood, all the darkenings in oak. Very good condition.
